The perfect symbiosis

The Uiseong Hwanghaksan Onshore Wind Farm Project, currently under development in the Hwanghaksan area of Uiseong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Republic of Korea, is one of the country’s largest onshore wind initiatives. During the installation process, transport equipment from the Faymonville Group plays a key role. The use of WingMAX and BladeMAX1000 demonstrates seamless coordination between the two systems.

Anjeon Faymonville Group’s expertise

Anjeon Enterprise is one of Korea’s leading specialized transport companies for heavy cargo and wind power components. The company has operated Cometto equipment since 2007 and owns a fleet with SPMT operation capacity of up to 230 axle lines. As one of only three Cometto equipment operators in Korea, Anjeon Enterprise introduced Faymonville WingMAX flatbeds for blade transport in 2021. In 2024, the company further strengthened its capabilities by adding two units of Cometto BladeMAX1000, establishing itself as a leader in wind turbine blade transportation in Korea.

The project features 15 state-of-the-art 6.6 MW Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy wind turbines, each with rotor diameters of up to 170 meters and towers approximately 180 meters high. The turbines are distributed along an 8-kilometre corridor, with an estimated annual energy production of around 146,000 MWh – enough to power more than 40,000 households.

Two-phase blade transport

A key technical challenge has been the transportation of the 85-meter-long, 28-ton turbine blades. For this task, Korean specialist transport company Anjeon Enterprise Co., Ltd. has relied on a combination of Faymonville WingMAX flatbed trailers and Cometto BladeMAX1000 blade lifters mounted on Cometto SPMTs.

The transportation process is carried out in two phases. In the first phase, blades are moved to an intermediate staging area using 3-axle WingMAX vehicles. The combination of pendle-axles and a hydraulically liftable and lowerable gooseneck allows the trailers to navigate obstacles along the route. In the second phase, blades are transferred using BladeMAX1000 to the final wind farm site – the most powerful blade lifter available on the market. The operation covers a total distance of 15 kilometres and includes steep mountainous forest roads, village roads, and gradients of up to 11 per cent. In challenging sections, the rotor blades can be raised up to 60 degrees and rotated 360 degrees as required.

Advanced blade transportation technologies

„The combination of Faymonville WingMAX and Cometto BladeMAX has allowed us to tackle some of the most complex blade transportation challenges in Korea with safety and efficiency“, said T. H. Lee, Managing Director of Bokook Corporation Sales Team. Great handling stability is ensured by the Cometto patented stability control system (SCS). Data from multiple sensors are collected and processed by a central control unit, guaranteeing precise and safe blade handling.
